Adam's Year of Uke: Will the Circle

.Here is a fun song that I like very much but is sometimes confused with a church song.  We have certainly played it in church!  That said, it's not a hymn, really.  It just has a kickin' hymn-like chorus.  The chords are simple (G, C, G, D G).  It is a fun song to chunk on, too.

This is also one of those old songs that people sometimes msitake for a realtively new one.  People like Johnny Cash, for example, are sometimes credited as the composer.  He isn't.  Wikipedia lets us know that it was written in 1907 by Ada Habershon and Charles Gabriel.

Here are the words!

Will the Circle Be Unbroken
(A. Habershon and C. Gabriel)

I was standing by my window

On a cold and cloudy day
When I saw that hearse come rolling
For to carry my mother away

Will the circle be unbroken
By and by Lord, by and by
There's a better home awaiting
In the sky Lord, in the sky

Well I told that undertaker
Undertaker please drive slow
For that body you are hauling
Lord I hate to see her go

Will the circle be unbroken
By and by Lord, by and by
There's a better home awaiting
In the sky Lord, in the sky

Oh, I followed close behind her
Tried to hold up and be brave
But I could not hide my sorrow
When they laid her in the grave

Will the circle be unbroken
By and by Lord, by and by
There's a better home awaiting
In the sky Lord, in the sky

I went home and my home was lonely
Since my mother, she had gone
All my brothers, sisters crying
Oh what a home so sad and alone

Will the circle be unbroken

By and by Lord, by and by
There's a better home awaiting
In the sky Lord, in the sky

Loved it, love the singer. Right up there with the best renditions I’ve ever heard.

I play a number of musical instruments.  In addition to the ukulele I play the mandolin, guitar, rhythm bones, and a few other things.  This page, though, is about my uke project.  I recently decided to post once a week on a uke-themed topic. Most of these posts will be simple songs you can sing along to.  Maybe later I will do more informational videos as well.
